Donald Fredrick Joslin, Sr., 53, died unexpectedly at his home in Hopkinton, RI on November 4, 2017. He was the husband and best friend of Lori Hill-Joslin.
Born on June 25, 1964 to George “Sonny” and Ruby (Charnley) Joslin; he grew up in Woodville, RI.
During the course of his working career, Don was employed at different local companies including, BDA, Charbert’s and Yardney. Don was a great handyman who could fix almost anything, and he never felt burdened when helping others as he often did. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but in the most recent years of his life he developed a passion for beekeeping. This newfound interest was much more than a hobby for Don, and it would take him in many interesting directions. He taught beekeeping classes at URI and for Agway at the Westerly Higher Education and Industry Center. He mentored many beekeepers all around southern Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut. For the past two years, Don and his wife Lori displayed some of their bees at Roger Williams Zoo. He was an instrumental factor in establishing the first bee hives at Godena Farm in Jamestown, with the help of the members of the Conanicut Island Land Trust. He was also the President of the Rhode Island Beekeepers Association and was featured in a PBS episode of Harvesting RI.
Don loved every minute he could spend with his granddaughter Madison Smith, who affectionately nicknamed him “Buddy”. Besides his wife Lori, Don leaves behind his son Brandon Joslin, his stepson James Aaron Smith, his granddaughter Madison Smith, his siblings; George Russell Joslin, Jr. (Nina), Randy Joslin (Helen), Jeanne Browning (Richard), James Joslin (Mary), Lisa Tibbets (Darrin), Bonnie Jacob (Jamie), Dori Boland (Scott), his father-in-law John Hill, Sr., brother-in-law John Hill, Jr., sister-in-law Donna Hill-Carper (James), and a large extended family.
