Stephen M. “Mike” Grimley, 76, of Hope Valley, RI, died peacefully on Tuesday January 3, 2023.
Born in Pawtucket, RI on December 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Samuel J. and Alice (Baldyga) Grimley.
He was a member of the 1964 graduating class of St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, and graduated from Providence College in 1968 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. He then continued his education at the University of Detroit, receiving a Master’s Degree in Mathematics.
Mike was a math teacher at Scituate High School for 28 years, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed lifelong friendships with fellow teachers and was a loyal Spartans fan for both boys and girls. He always encouraged pursuit of continuing education, realizing its value in his own life. After several years of teaching, he returned to Providence College to complete a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
Mike was a sports fanatic. A lifelong Red Sox fan, he recounted the days of going to Fenway on “Family Nights” and especially enjoyed following Ted Williams’ career. Like so many others he cried tears of joy in 2004 when they won the World Series. At Providence College he became an ardent Friars fan and was known to recount critical details of games in the Big East years afterward. He was most devoted to University of Michigan football. GO BLUE! He was also a fan of the New England Patriots from their origins in Boston to the present day.
He will be sadly missed by his sisters, Ann (Ron) McClain of Peoria, IL and Patricia Campbell of Chehalis, WA. He also leaves seven nieces and nephews and twelve great nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday January 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 1105 Main St., Hope Valley, RI. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
