Stephen P. Anderson, 70, of Hope Valley, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday, April 15, 2018 due to Parkinson’s. He was the loving husband of Betty (Wall) Anderson. Born in Oakland, CA, he was the son of the late Charles Redford Anderson and the late Jacqueline Berry Jones.
Steve proudly served his country for more than 23 years of highly distinguished service in the United States Navy completing his career with an honorable discharge as a Lieutenant Commander. He spent 11 years as a facility manager, chief operator and instructor at the U.S. Coast Guard Ship Simulator Facility in New London, CT.
Steve received his education at the University of Colorado completing a Bachler of Science degree in Engineering Design and Economic Evaluation in 1974 and then an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Hartford, CT in 2001. Steve was an avid sailor who taught in many locations in the U.S. and abroad. He enjoyed serving as the Commodore for the Yokosuka Yacht Club in Japan for 2 years. He was also a past member of the International Maritime Lecturers Association. He remained active in his church and enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. A true friend to animals, he was devoted to his beloved dogs.
Besides his wife Betty, he is survived by his children Erik Anderson of Suisan City, CA, Cheri Anderson Gaito of Brooklyn, NY and Carey Anderson Ruwe of Santa Cruz, CA and his grandchildren Tara-Sage, Trinity, Hank and Pepper.
Funeral services will be private. S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St. Hope Valley is assisting the family with arrangements.
