Tribute

Norman E. Tougas, 88, of Charlestown, passed away on April 26, 2022. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Garlick) Tougas and together they shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Charlestown, RI on October 19, 1933 he was the son of the late Victor and Marie (Michaud) Tougas.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1954, Norman worked in construction until he was hired at Electric Boat where he worked for 25 years, retiring in 1999. After retiring he worked at the UBS in Richmond for several years. Norman was considered a Master Carpenter. He enjoyed and could build just about anything…including “helping” his grandson build award winning Pinewood Derby’s. He loved tinkering in his workshop, camping with the family and cruising with friends. He also loved watching the Red Sox and the Patriots…watching and listening to the birds and an occasional fishing trip.

Norman leaves his children Michelle (Tougas) and William Clarke, Jerome Tougas, Denise (Tougas) and Bernard Brammall and Christine (Tougas) Richardson. His grandchildren Daniel LeBeau, Aaron and Lauren Richardson, Joshua Richardson, Dean and Brooke Waterman, Nicole Waterman, Alicia (Clarke) and John Hammon and Makayla Clarke. His great-grandchildren Reighly Boss, Sophia Richardson, Zeke Waterman, Grayson Hammon and June Waterman and numerous nieces and nephews. His Brother Eugene and wife Mary Tougas. Norman was preceded in death by his sister Irene (Tougas) Whitman and his brother Joseph and his wife Barbara (Hinchliffe) Tougas.

Memorial services will be held on June 11th at St Mary’s Church, 437 Carolina Back Road, Charlestown, RI at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St Jude Children’s Research hospital or the Activities Department at South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation.

The family would also like to share their sincere thanks to the Staff at South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation for the genuine care they put into taking care of Norman during his time there.
