Monna E. Morgan, 89, of Exeter, passed away at her home surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late William I. Morgan and together they shared 40 years of marriage. Born in Hopkinton on October 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Monna C. (Edwards) Palmer.
Monna met and fell in love with her wonderful husband, Bill, after which she decided that college wasn’t for her. She returned the money her parents had given to her for school, got married, and made the decision to become the best mom to her 8 children, foster children and nearly every kid in the neighborhood who wanted to have her as a mom. When she wasn’t with her kids, she helped run Morgan’s Restaurant along with several other restaurants with her husband. She did manage to find some free time for Tuesday night card games with her daughters, watching her favorite team the Boston Red Sox, listening to country music and reading. She also loved driving her car……..fast! Her home was always filled with family and she loved cooking for them. Not only did she care for her own children, she also helped raise many of her grandchildren while their parents worked. Monna was an amazing woman and will be so dearly missed by all of the lives that she touched.
She leaves her children Mary Morgan Getchell and her partner Paula Hamilton of Wyoming, Joseph P. Morgan and his wife Robin of Ashaway, Catherine E. Morgan of East Greenwich, John W. Morgan of Charlestown, Monna L. Morgan of Exeter, Joan C. Pelletier and her husband Kenneth of Exeter and Michael James Morgan, Sr. and his wife Cindy of Exeter; 97 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her siblings Roma Reynolds, Kenneth Palmer, Patricia Schuhardt, Edwin Palmer, Beatrice Palmer; countless nieces and nephews; 3 foster children; along with Laci (who claimed herself as Ma’s dog) and knew the sound of the back door opening meant food. She was preceded in death by her son William I. Morgan, Jr.; grandson Greg “Willy” Morgan; her siblings Emerson Palmer, Russell Palmer, Edwood Palmer, William Palmer and Daniel Palmer; daughter-in-law Maryann McGunagle Morgan along with her stepmother Mary McElroy Palmer.
A special thank you to Bill Menard for calling and checking on her every night, your kindness is so appreciated.
