Mary E. King

June 10, 1930 ~ October 20, 2021 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Tribute

Mrs. Mary E. (Quinn) King of Carolina, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on October 20th at South Kingstown Nursing and Rehab Center in South Kingstown. She was the beloved wife of Clifford F. King. Born in South Kingstown on June 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Bernard B. Quinn and late Catherine (McKeon) Quinn.

Mary spent her early childhood growing up close to the ocean in peaceful Narragansett, a place that her heart never left. She graduated from South Kingstown High School with the class of 1948. It was there where she would meet her later-to-be husband, Clifford. They would go on to be married in the summer of 1956. Prior to her being wed, Mary had spent several years serving as a telephone operator on a switchboard for Narragansett’s telephone office. Shortly afterward, the two would travel around the United States, living in places such as Houston TX, Stoneham MA, North Reading MA and Seattle WA. Thirteen years and five children later, they would come back and settle in Rhode Island. Throughout her life, Mary was an avid reader. She preferred to read non-fiction books of all topics; health, weather, history, opinion pieces, and more. She always had a desire to indulge her interests and to keep learning. Mary also enjoyed a game of Croquet or a good game of Milton Bradley’s Trouble. She often enjoyed long walks on the beach where she could experience the sea breeze and find new pieces of sea glass. She loved her family dearly, which was always her central focus. She also had strong faith in God and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Carolina RI. Her Irish ancestry, her spirit, warm personality and caring interest for others will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mary is survived by her husband Clifford King; her children, Catherine Martineau and husband Joseph, (Charles) Bryan King and wife Deborah, David King and wife Mary, Julie LaMountain and husband Robert, Amy King-Crandall and husband Kevin; and nine grandchildren, Daniel and Jason Martineau; Caitlin, Sean and Chase LaMountain; Ryan, Connor, Mariah and Michael King. She was preceded in death by her siblings Bernard H. Quinn, Marguerite LaRiviere and Helen Phelps.
