Mary F. DeMerchant

Mary F. (Burrows) DeMerchant, 84 of Carolina, RI, died peacefully on Sunday March 21, 2021. She was the beloved wife of Douglas S. DeMerchant.
Born in Oceanside, NY on October 6, 1936 she was the daughter of the late Charles Burrows and Bessie (Nangle) Burrows and stepdaughter of the late Katie Burrows.

Mary was an active member of the Carolina Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary and one of the founding members of the Arbutus Garden Club.

Besides her loving and devoted husband of over 66 years she will be sadly missed by her 3 children, Lorna Caulfield (Brian) of Ashaway, Julie DeMerchant and her former husband (Paul Forbes) of Charlestown and Keith DeMerchant (Brenda) of Carolina, RI. She was the loving grandmother of Amy, John, Lindsey, Matthew, Kyle and Emily and great grandmother of 6. She also leaves her sister Joyce Reed (Bill) and Dick Burrows (Cathy). She was the sister of the late Charlie, Jimmy, Betty, Marion and Sonny.

Walk through calling hours will be held at S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St. Hope Valley, RI on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Social distancing guidelines and other public health directives (i.e., use of facemasks) will be in place with an indoor capacity limit of 50 Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI all attending will gather at the Administration Building at 12:45
