Margaret A. “Peg” (Oakes) Thornley, 85, of Austin Farm Road, Exeter, RI died peacefully on Thursday February 14, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Claude “Tom” Thornley.
Born in Providence, RI on August 19, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Willard B. and Margaret A. (Saunders) Oakes.
Peg had been a School Bus Driver for the Town of Exeter, RI for many years before retiring and she was the owner of Patricia’s Hair Salon in Exeter.
She was an avid golfer and former president of the Thursday Night Mixed Golf League. She also helped and organize the town of Exeter’s yearly parade.
She will be sadly missed by her five children; Lucille Tefft, Patricia Jacobs, Marjorie Coutu, Karen Claveau and Michael Thornley. She was the loving grandmother of 11, great grandmother of 16 and great, great grandmother of one. She also leaves her two brothers; Stephen Oakes of South Dakota and Willard Oakes of CT.
Calling hours will be held on Monday February 18, 2019 from 4-7 PM at the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St. Hope Valley, RI. With a celebration of her life starting at 6:30 PM.
