Joseph L. A. Cayer, 99, of Hopkinton, RI died peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Catherine (Erhardt) Cayer.
Born on the Cayer Farm in Hopkinton, RI on March 5, 1919 he was the son of the late Joseph and Lumina (Cinq-Mars) Cayer.
Mr. Cayer retired from Harris Graphics Corp in 1981 as a Machinist after 29 years of service. He also worked in the textile industry in his earlier years. He was a WW II Army Veteran and the last surviving member of Battery E., a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul church in Bradford, RI, a member of the Downey Weaver Post #34 of the American Legion, the VFW 9818 Charlestown-Richmond Post, the R.I. Rifle and Pistol Association, and the NRA.
Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter; Elizabeth A. Collier of Vero Beach FL, his adoring grand-daughter; Jacquelyn Bliss of FL., his brother; Wilfrid and his wife Hazel of Wakefield, RI, sisters; Theresa Pharris of Westerly and Louise Burton and her husband Eric of Ashaway, RI, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late; Cecile O’Keefe, Lumina (Kit) Gouvin, Elizabeth (Bette) Gerrish, Wilfred Cayer, Paul Cayer and Fred Cayer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 5 Church St., Bradford, RI. Burial with full military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
