Joel Dean Lewis

November 16, 1956 ~ March 24, 2024 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Tribute

Joel Dean Lewis, 67, of Voluntown, CT, passed away at home on Sunday, March 24, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Joel was born in Westerly, RI on November 16 1956, and was raised in Hope Valley, he was the son of the late Dalton Lewis Sr. and Lucille Bolger Lewis.

Joel worked for over 40 years as a welder, at Electric Boat, Bostitch, and before retiring had worked in Quality Control at Anvil International in North Kingstown. Known to be a hard and diligent worker, he took pride in his work and job field. He was enjoying the pleasures of his retirement years by the time of his passing. Despite his hard working lifestyle, he knew how to live an active life and have a good time. In his youth he was an avid motorcyclist, played various sports like basketball and softball, and in his later years loved playing the game of horseshoes.  He loved dancing, music, making others laugh with his jokes and sharing a cold beer with good friends. He was lovingly given the nickname  “The Mayor” by the many friends he had, simply for the fact he knew just about everyone. His friends were limitless and never in short supply. He was always there for a friend with a laugh, a smile or a shoulder to cry on.

Most importantly, he had a large family that will grieve the loss of him forever. He was the youngest born out of 10 brothers and sisters. He leaves behind his daughter Olivia Lewis of Exeter, RI and his 2 grandchildren. His surviving sisters Cora, Clara, and Josephine and his brothers Don and Paul. As well as a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews.

A private graveside funeral service will be held for immediate family at Pine Grove Cemetery, in Hope Valley, RI. Following Joel’s wishes, his family is arranging to have a public Celebration of Life Memorial Party for all who knew and loved Joel. It will be held in May 2024. Location, date and time to be determined. We invite all interested to come and remember his life, listen to music, share stories, eat some good food, dance and have a drink in his honor and memory.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation for Joel towards his Memorial Party and Funeral expenses to Olivia Lewis through the Gofundme listed on Joel’s Facebook Page.
