Jean Overend, 82, of Hope Valley, RI passed away peacefully June 29th
2018with her family by her side at Yale Medical Center in New Haven, CT.
The Overend family will greet family and friends Thursday, July 5th 2018 from 4-7 PM at S.R.Avery Funeral Home, Main Street, Hope Valley RI.
Jean was born February 26th 1936, in Westerly, RI to Anthony and Stephanie Zegarzewski.
Jean spent her childhood in Hope Valley. She graduated from Westerly High School in 1954. She began a working career at Bostitch in Westerly and East Greenwich, RI. In 1957, Jean met Joseph Overend, also of Hope Valley, while ice skating on Locustville Pond. The two wed two years later, and spent their lives together living on the pond where they first met. Joe and Jean celebrated 58 years of wedded bliss. Jean took pleasure in her role as a homemaker and mother for many years. Later in she returned to the workforce as an assistant Tax Collector at the Hopkinton Town Hall, where she retired after 15 years of service.
Jean enjoyed many years of golf with her husband Joe, and was a member of the Meadowbrook and Richmond Ladies Golf Leagues for numerous years. She also enjoyed traveling and spending winters with her husband in the Myrtle Beach, SC area.
Jean is survived by her husband, and two sons. Michael Overend and his wife Valerie of Pottstown, PA, and Steven Overend, and his wife Sylvia of Charlestown, RI, as well as 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Jean was preceded in death by her sister Karen Greene.
