George S. Edwards Jr. 82 of Richmond, RI died peacefully on Friday December 7, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Martin) Edwards.
Born in South Kingstown, RI on March 5, 1936 he was the son of the late George S. Edwards Sr. and Sadie (Joslin) Cole.
George had been a Loom Fixer at the former Hamilton Webb Manufacturing Co. in North Kingstown, RI and later had been employed as a Boilermaker at the former Bradford Dyeing Association before retiring.
Active in many civic organizations he served as the Town Sergeant for the Town of Richmond RI for many years. He was a life member and Captain of the Fire Police for the Hope Valley- Wyoming Volunteer Fire Department. Was a member of the Masons for over 50 years and was an avid ham radio user with the call sign (K1gse).
Besides his loving and devoted wife of over 54 years he will be sadly missed by his sisters and brother; Judy Presti of Buena Vista, VA, Gerald Edwards of Colorado Springs and Jodie Joslin Skinnard of North Kingstown, RI.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday December 12, 2018 from 4-7 PM at the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St. Hope Valley, RI. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Friends Cemetery, Richmond, RI.
