Emmaline Beatrice Wood

September 11, 1940 ~ August 23, 2018 (age 77)
Emmaline Beatrice (Thornley) Wood, 77, of Hopkinton, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Westerly Hospital. She was the wife of the late Paul Edwards and the late George A. Wood. Born in North Kingstown on September 11, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Annie (Capwell) Thornley.

Emmaline enjoyed working as an RN for the Westerly Health Center for 16 years and then finally retiring from the Westerly Nursing Home. She was a strong-willed woman who put her family above all else raising 5 young children after the early passing of her husband Paul and then married George. With George, they had 2 more children and her life was filled with running the kids to their various sporting activities along with owning the “We / 3 Tavern” in Hope Valley. She was active in her youth playing golf, had been a member of a women’s bowling league and through her son Paul became an avid NASCAR fan watching racing and traveling to the Daytona 500 and the Dover International Speedway. She even managed to get in a few trips to a place that she loved, Disney World. Above all else, she loved her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the lights of her life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She leaves her sons Keith Edwards and his wife Cyndi, Scott J. Edwards and his wife Paula, Todd W. Edwards, Stephen B. Wood and his wife Jennifer, Bruce “Dewey” Wood and wife Kayla; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Linda Tanner; lifelong friend Gerri Veitch; several nieces and nephews along with many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sons Paul A. Edwards and Shannon L. Edwards along with her 8 siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 10:00a.m. at the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St. Hope Valley. Burial will follow at Wood River Cemetery, Richmond. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 27 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
