Banfill, Eleanor A. “Ellie” (Drowne)
90, of Richmond RI, (formally of East Greenwich, RI and Sandown, NH) passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 26, 2020 just 4 days shy of her 91st birthday.
Ellie was the beloved wife of the late Harry G. Banfill, who passed away in 1994. Born in Exeter NH, she was the daughter of the late Clarence I. and Marion A. (Merrick) Drowne.
She was an honors graduate of Keene State College, NH in 1951. After moving to RI in 1962, Ellie taught second grade at Western Coventry Elementary School for 23 years.
Ellie enjoyed spending time with family and friends and always looked forward to holiday gatherings. She loved cooking and tending to her beautiful flower garden. She loved the outdoors, her pets and especially enjoyed the many birds that visited her feeder daily. Ellie also loved taking family trips to NH to visit her many Drowne relatives.
She was the loving mother of the late Gail L. Crothers and her husband John of Carolina, RI, Sherry L. Delahunt and her husband Harry of Exeter, RI and Jill A. Mongeon and her husband Claude of North Kingstown, RI. She was the cherished grandmother of Timothy Crothers (wife Danielle) of Nassau, NY, Nicole Peterson (husband Matthew) of North Andover, MA, David Delahunt (wife Ashley) of North Kingstown, RI, Derek Delahunt (wife Amanda) of Providence, RI, Jean-Claude Mongeon and Nicolas Mongeon of West Newton, MA. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, Caitlin and Rebecca Crothers, Emily and Abigail Peterson, and Kaiden and Andre Delahunt, along with several nieces and nephews. She was the sister to the late Albert Drowne, Ralph Drowne, Fred Drowne and Richard Drowne.
