Earl E. Hoffman, husband of Dorothy M. (Kenyon) Hoffman of South Kingstown, RI passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2020. Earl was born on November 27, 1921 in Newport, RI, the youngest son of the late Charles E. Hoffman and Jane S. Dennis. He was the last surviving sibling of six Hoffmans and four Husseys.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Hoffman served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland. Mr. Hoffman worked for many years at the Kenyon Piece & Dye Works in Richmond, RI and then went on to a long career in the Produce Department at Almacs Grocery Stores where he retired in 1992.
Mr. Hoffman almost single-handedly built a large ranch house in Carolina, RI in the late 1950’s where he and his wife Dotty raised their family. In his younger days, Earl enjoyed traveling with friends, bowling, gardening, reading books, riding his bicycle, cooking and reading his Providence Sunday Journal. In his later years as his health declined, he enjoyed working on puzzles.
Mr. Hoffman was brother to the late Dora Hoffman of Liberty, KY; Mildred Hoffman of Peace Dale, RI; Velda Rodman (Samuel) of Peace Dale, RI; Francis Hoffman (Hope) of Karnyville, WV and Harold Hoffman (Eleanor) of Norwich, CT and Kissimmee, FL. He was also brother to the late Orville Hussey (Claire) of Naples, FL; John Hussey (Araminta) of Gray, GA; Patricia Green (Norman) of Newport, RI and Leonard Hussey (Isabelle) of Middletown, RI and Bronxville, NY. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Paul E. Hoffman and son-in-law Duane J. Costa of Rio Rico, AZ; his daughter Wendy Asting of Wakefield, RI; his granddaughter Bonnie Smith (Christopher) and his two great grandchildren, Izik and Izabelle Prucha of Peace Dale, RI. He was also father to the late Gary Eugene Hoffman.
