David A. Greene, 76, of Old Post Road, Charlestown, R.I., died peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Alice (Barnes) Greene.
Born in South Kingstown, R.I., on September 30, 1941, he was the son of the late George and Annie (Briggs) Greene.
David served his country proudly in the US. Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War.
David had been a Lobbyist for the Christian Science Church Society of Rhode Island. He was an accomplished artist, woodcarver, avid reader, writer and traveler. He wrote a column for the Charlestown Press about growing up in Charlestown. He was a longtime member of the Charlestown Historical Society, a member of the Masons (Charity Lodge) and Past Commander of the Westerly Disabled American Veterans.
Besides his devoted wife of over 57 years, he will be sadly missed by his daughter; Rebecca Engstrume and husband Eric of South Kingstown, R.I. He also leaves his granddaughters; Brittany Fox and Jennifer Fox-Smith and her husband James Smith and his great grandchildren; Jasmin, Dustin, Christopher, Anna and Benjamin. He was pre deceased by his son, Christopher A. Greene and 3 brothers, Bud, Lloyd and Grafton Greene.
A service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., at the Rhode Island Memorial Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. People attending are asked to gather at the cemetery Administration building at 11:15 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hope Hospice, 1085 N Main St., Providence, R.I. 02904.
