Clyde was born on June 1, 1944 in Westerly, Rhode Island. He was the son of Clyde T. Higgins and Lillian Unkuri.

Clyde leaves behind his wife Melody B. Spears, and his children Jessica Crotty of Charlestown, Judith Higgins of Ashaway.
