Cleo Julia (Poitras) Carsten, 72, of Charlestown, RI passed away after a 15-year battle with cancer on February, 20, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Elway "Leo" and Laurette Poitras of Richmond, RI.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John Carsten whom she married in 1969 at Saint Joseph’s Church in Richmond.
Cleo attended Chariho High School, class of 1966, and received two Associate Degrees from The Community College of Rhode Island, both with High Honors.
Throughout Cleo’s career she worked for several local companies including Washington Trust Company, started her own business, Coastal Office Products, and retired from Citizens Bank after 16 years.
Cleo leaves behind her husband, John; daughter, Susan Carsten Raymond, her husband Steven and their sons Andrew and Maxwell; her son Daniel Carsten, his wife Martha and their sons Bennett and Eli; and her 5 siblings; David Poitras, Imogene Coulter, Leola Zegarzewski, Rose Bartholomew, and Leo Poitras.
She loved being Grammie to her 4 grandchildren, traveling with her family, especially to Disney World, and was known to bake and gift amazing cookie trays every Christmas.
Cleo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will always be remembered for her kind spirit, strength and bravery in life, and her amazing dedication to her friends and family.
Walk through calling hours will be held at S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St, Hopkinton, RI on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 4-6 pm. Social distancing guidelines and other public health directives (i.e., use of facemasks and maximum of 15 people in the building at any given time) will be in place.
A mass will be held at St. James Chapel, 2079 Matunuck Schoolhouse Rd., Charlestown on Thursday, February 25 at 10 am. Following the current guidelines a maximum of 65 people will be allowed to attend the church service. Burial will be private
