Barbara M. (Gulliver) Cronan, 88 of Spring St. Hope Valley, RI died peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of John M. “Jay” Cronan sadly he predeceased her on August 27, 1999 after 50 years of marriage.
Born in West Haven, CT on May 25, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eleanor (Connor) Gulliver.
Mrs. Cronan was a bookkeeper at H.C. Woodmansee and Son Heating and Oil for over 20 years before her retirement.
Barbara was an active communicant of St. Joseph Church in Hope Valley, RI and a member of the Church Choir and the Rosary and Altar Society. She had also been a member of the Hope Valley School PTO, Hope Valley Homemakers, Langworthy Public Library Board, Ninigret Quilters.
Mrs. Cronan enjoyed spending time watching T.V, doing counted cross stitch, knitting and spending time with her family and friends. She was a lifelong New York Giants Fan and University of Michigan Football Fan.
She and her late husband enjoyed spending the winters at Tropic Schooner in Naples Florida for over 17 years and both enjoyed traveling and especially several times to Ireland.
She will be sadly missed by her two daughters; Nancy MacDonald and her partner Glenn Parsons of Mystic, CT and Kathy Harrington and her partner Rich Vincent of Hope Valley, RI. She also leaves 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and her sister-in-law Carol Smith. She was predeceased by her son Brian Cronan.
Barbara’s family wishes to thank her granddaughter; Claudette for the special care and love she gave to her grandmother over the past year.
The Cronan family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday from 4-7 PM at the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St. Hope Valley, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 1105 Main St. Hope Valley, RI. Burial will follow in White Brook Cemetery, Carolina, RI.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hope Hospice of Rhode Island 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904 or St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. PO Box 388 Hope Valley, RI 02832.
