Annie W. Capalbo was born on May 8, 1927 to Arthur and Minnie (Slingsby) Waddington in Bradford, Rhode Island. She was the youngest of three children. Annie died peacefully on September 17, 2018, following a brief illness. She was 91 years old.
As a life-long member of the Bradford Community, Annie was also a member of the graduating class of 1944 from Westerly High School. She met her late husband, Joseph F. “John D” Capalbo Jr., at the Bradford Post Office as he was hanging out there with his friends. He asked her out on a date, and she said “NO”. He told her he was going off to war and asked her to write to him, and she did. After three years in Germany, John D returned from the war, and they were married in 1947.
Annie worked for several years at Bradford Dyeing Association (BDA) in Bradford, Rhode Island, before she joined the workforce at Yardney Electric in Pawcatuck, Connecticut. Annie loved to travel when she could, visiting family and friends in New England, Tennessee, Florida, and England.
She leaves behind a son; Joseph Capalbo, a daughter- in- law; Cathy Capalbo, a granddaughter; Elizabeth Santilli and her husband Billy Santilli, three great- grandchildren; Nathan, Dexter and Gemma. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the S.R Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St., Hope Valley, RI on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 10-11AM. A funeral home service will immediately follow the calling hour at 11AM. Burial will be on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 10:30AM at the RI Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
