Albert R. Gunther, 88, of Rockville, RI died peacefully on January 11, 2021 after two year illness. He was the beloved husband of Dianne (Ross) Gunther.
Born in Providence, RI on December 30, 1932 he was the son of the late Ervin and Grace (Hopkins) Gunther.
Al graduated from Cranston High School (East). He went on to serve is country proudly in the United States Air-force during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the military he came back to Rhode Island and worked for the former Narragansett Electric Co. as a Lineman for a short time. In 1959 he was appointed Ranger of Yawgoog Scout Reservation in Rockville, RI a job he loved and was dedicated to for over 36 years before retiring.
Al served on the Hope Valley Ambulance Corp for many years. He was the former Chief of the Yawgoog Fire Department now part of the Hope Valley Wyoming Fire District, served on the Town of Hopkinton Police Commission for many years and he received one of the highest awards given by the Boy Scouts of America the God and Country Award.
Al will be remembered for his love of family, horses and was proud of the fact he built his retirement log home.
Besides his loving and dedicated wife of over 67 years he will be sadly missed by his two children; Kenneth R. Gunther of Rockville, RI and Linda Celico of Westerly, RI. He was the loving grandfather of Samuel, Megan and Annie. He was predeceased by his son Jeffrey Gunther and brother, Donald Gunther.
Funeral service and burial with full military honors will be private. A celebration of Al’s life will be held after Covid 19 restrictions.
