Roger G. Grimes, 85, of South Kingstown, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at South County Hospital. He was the husband of Celia A. (Kenyon) Grimes and together they shared 59 years of marriage. Born in Carolina, RI on January 23, 1932, he was the son of the late John A. and Esther M. (Robitalle) Grimes, Sr.
Roger served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. During his career he worked at several manufacturing jobs and he retired from Electric Boat. Outside of work he was an avid bowler and he enjoyed fishing and playing pool. He and his wife loved to go on cruises and he cherished the time spent with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was never a dull moment with Roger when he was telling one of his stories. He was full of life, laughter and smiles and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his loving wife Celia, he leaves his children Brenda J. Terricciano and her husband Robert of AL, Kevin J. Grimes and his wife Brenda of SC and Anne E. Matteson of PA; his 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his brothers Walter B. Grimes and his wife Patricia of RI and William F. Grimes and his wife Judy of RI along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Gordon R. Grimes, his sister Antonette Hermes and his brother John A. Grimes, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St. in Hope Valley. Burial will follow at White Brook Cemetery, Carolina. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 17 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
