George Robert Sherman Sr.

November 25, 1937 ~ March 7, 2024 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Tribute

George Robert Sherman, Sr., 86, of Hopkinton, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Shirley L. (Turgeon) Sherman. Born in Wakefield, RI on November 25, 1937, he was the son of the late Robert and Eva (Abbey) Sherman.

George began his dedication to service at the age of 15 when he first became an active volunteer in the Charlestown/Richmond Fire Departments. He went on to be a part of the Carolina Fire Department retiring as the Fire Chief. His legacy lives on in the generations after him through his sons and grandchildren who follow in his footsteps as firefighters. He also served his country proudly as a Marine. Sports were always a large part of his life whether coaching baseball, fishing or just being an avid fan of NASCAR, the Yankees and WWE wrestling. He also participated as a Boy Scout Leader. Family was first and foremost with him always. He was his wife’s caregiver, being “her voice” as she dealt with dementia and was always there for his kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves his children George Sherman, Jr. and wife Karen, Catherine Rogers, and husband Dale, Audura Pagliarini and husband Michael, Frederick Sherman and wife Stacey, Daniel Sherman, and his companion Erica Martira; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law Pearl Turgeon.
